The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman

By: Louis De Bernieres

-pgs: 459

The conclusion of the three tales stars Cardinal Guzman, a respected religious authority who leads a double life full of sin and avarice. His bad deeds catch up with him in the form of an intense illness that causes him to have very severe illusions. Also, Guzman unknowingly leashes a terror on his country through nominating a priest to help end the heresy in the villages and to bring the people back to the church. This tale also contains many of the original characters that have played a significant part in the first two stories. In addition, the tale is full of action and adventure culminating with a final battle between good and evil. This story still contains the humor of the first two tales as well as some of the tawdry incidents that comprise these stories. I would recommend this tale to anyone who has read the previous two and I would recommend these stories as an excellent example of magical realism. For anyone who loves fiction, these tales will be an excellent addition.
