Prodigal Summer

By Barbara Kingsolver

-pgs: 444

An interesting combination of three people’s life in one town that is surrounded by moths and other creatures. This is a very naturalistic story that discovers the lives of multiple people in the Appalachian mountains in relation to the animals living around them. The main point of the author is the idea of predator and prey. The death of one predator equals the rise of x amount of prey causing an almost plague on the surrounding area; it was an interesting thing to consider. One issue with the novel is the author has too much detail; she should have been more concise – the novel seemed too long and too drawn out – definitely not suspenseful.
