Bones to Ashes

Another great mystery from Kathy Reichs. In this story, Temperance Brennan is attempting to track down an old summer friend who mysteriously disappeared when she was a child. This leads her on several different journeys through Canada where her life is threatened once again. In addition, this tale includes an encore performance from her sister Harry who is in the process of divorcing from her fifth or sixth husband. Brennan’s love triangle between her separated husband and Detective Ryan becomes stranger when they both tell her some unexpected news. The story line was well written and developed. Reichs did an excellent job of picking the topics to focus on in her book: missing young girls and leprosy. She also did a wonderful job of explaining the material so an average person with no training in medical terminology or forensics would be able to understand the material. I wish that Reichs would leave the relationship between Brennan and Ryan alone and let it be good for awhile. I almost feel like she really can’t do much to it anymore or it will seem forced. This book was as well written as her past novels and would be a great popular piece of fiction to read for entertainment. Reichs does an excellent job of building suspense and keeping a reader on the edge of their seat.
