By C.S. Lewis

-pgs: 243

The story features Eustace and a friend from his rather strange school, Jill. They managed to get to Narnia by opening a door on their school grounds. In this adventure, the children help rescue Prince Caspians’s only son from the throes of an evil serpent who is also responsible for killing his mother. In this story, we are introduced to an interesting creature, the Marsh-wiggle who is always gloomy and sees the worst in everything. The children learn bravery and courage which help them face their enemies at the school when they return. An interesting addition to the Narnian stories and the second to the last book in the series.

Rather a disappointment. I felt C.S. Lewis was attempting to find a quick end to his series of tales and this is the best that he came up with. Unfortunately, it seemed very forced and incoherent. It lacked some of the rich, witty writing style that he had used in his first stories. It is very different than his initial tales. Although I understand his wanting to end the series, it seems like he could have developed another tale to accomplish this goal. Also, I did not like how he had a reunion with all of the characters he had sent to Narnia in this last story. I recommend this book to anyone who has read the entire series but don’t expect much from it.

By C.S. Lewis

-pgs: 248

The fifth book in the Chronicles of Narnia which introduces a new character Eustace who is Edmund’s and Lucy’s annoying cousin. The story is set in Narnia on Prince Caspian’s boat who wishes to travel to the ends of that world looking for the missing king’s men. The three relatives join him on his journey by being pulled into the picture. They encounter many new lands that all have something special about them. In addition, Eustace grows up and becomes a model citizen. One sees Aslan in this story. However, it is the last adventure for Edmund and Lucy. A very interesting chapter in the chronology full of the dear friends we have come to love.
