pgs: 435

Another well written tale of powerful women in New York struggling with life trying to rise in their respective businesses in a primarily male dominated work force. You follow the lives of three separate women: one is a fashion designer who has been unlucky in love and is looking to increase her image and her company; another is the president of a movie company who is struggling balance her family life and her career with a husband who is unwillingly to help her anymore; the last one is the editor and chief of a popular women’s magazine who is balancing an affair with her family life and trying to outsmart her boss and take his job. I find Bushnell’s tales to be very engaging and easy to follow. You could put this story down and pick it up without missing any information. I also enjoyed how she maintained some of the previous characters from her story Trading Up in this tale. Bushnell does a good job of creating conflict for her characters that causes the reader to ponder the resolution and she always concludes her tales with a surprise. Easy to read with all aspects of good popular fiction!!

4 Blondes

-pgs: 371

An interesting book into the lives of four of the elite: a model, a columnist, a socialite and a writer. All of these women are found in New York and they all have their own opinion on love and what it does to people. You experience these women’s reaction to the presentation of passion and in each story line one of the women grows and becomes a better person. They earn something which we can all relate to. Very reminiscent of Bushnell’s Sex in the City. However, I enjoyed the writing style and the plot development. A good example of intriguing popular fiction that is an easy read. The characters are memorable and each unique in their own story line.

Trading Up

-pgs: 504

I really enjoyed 4 Blondes and Sex in the City but I felt this novel did not do the author any justice. I do realize that this is popular fiction and really has no merit. However, it was not up to the caliber of Bushnell’s other work. It is either that or I have grown and matured and this just annoys me because I cannot relate to it. The story centers on Janey Wilcox a new Victoria Secret’s model who is whiney, selfish, annoying, sex crazy and unable to think for herself. You get a good look in to who she is and why she is the way she is. In addition, you meet all of her associates who are as messed up as she is. The plot of the story was weak and I felt that we were building up to something big but never got it. It was very anticlimactic. Not a good reflections of Bushnell’s other work and almost hard to complete.
