The story of Anna, the daughter of a cold-hearted businessman who has set standards and expectations for his daughter to follow. If she deviates from this, she is punished with silence and an extreme guilt trip. Anna lives a very isolated life that her father has established for her. However, in the story, Anna becomes of age to handle her own financial situations. Her father steers her to push one of her tenants who is late on his rent to a breaking point. The ramifications of this event haunt her. In addition, she is being sought by two potential husbands. However, one is very poor and one is well-respected and considered a catch. The story focuses on Anna and her ability to handle all these circumstances. A very quick, interesting story. I had low expectations for this story but was pleasantly surprised.
