By Jane Austen

-pgs: 282

Eudora Welty described this book, “As nearly flawless as any fiction could be.” I would have to agree wholeheartedly. I was extremely engaged and involved in this story. The characters and the flow of the events in the story keep one’s attention. You find yourself turning pages quickly and rooting for certain outcomes to occur. In addition, there are several surprises in this story which helps keep your attention. I, unfortunately, saw the film version of this first with Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson. However, reading this was even more fulfilling than watching it. Austen truly had an excellent command of language and how to tell a story. A superbly written novel.

Emma

The story of the main character Emma and the town she lives in. Emma suffers from being very prideful. She thinks she knows everything about everyone. This idea is disproved when the guy she likes (who she thought liked her) is discovered to be engaged for sometime to another woman. Emma’s world begins to fall apart at this time and she goes through a period of depression and realism. However, se discovers in the end that she really loves someone else around her who also returns her feelings. A very good story that is similar to Bronte’s stories. Very entertaining and easy to read. Will be enjoyed by all.

By Jane Austen

-pgs: 312

One of my favorite novels that tells the story of a family of girls who live in a social class society where they do not have a high place. The girls do not have money or a title which makes their marriage prospects very small. The girls each fall in love with someone who is out of their league and they go through the ups and downs of dealing with the knowledge that this will not be returned. Favorite characters are of course Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. A really great novel filled with adventure, love and suspense. A satisfying read.
