Anderson is taking a social stand on humanity in his recent book Feed. The setting is futuristic but it is obviously based on what could happen to the world today. I felt the future he saw in his writing was very plausible. Anderson writes for a more young adult audience and I felt that the message he was expressing in his novel was very appropriate. He is cautioning them against following the pack and losing their own unique individual thought through the main characters Titus and Violet. This novel causes one to really reflect on one’s priorities in life and what influences one. The title Feed is explained throughout the story and at the end one wonders what is feeding into our minds through the media and what is constantly trying to influence us. This book does use profane language and discuss topics like sex which parents may disagree with. However, this is done to show how much the human race has devolved in the future. This would be a great book to read alongside your young adult so you could discuss the material with them. Otherwise, I would fear some young adult might misconstrue the message the author is intending.
